Stirling Wheelchair Curling Club took on rinks from Braehead, Kinross, Lanarkshire, Lockerbie in the Friendship Trophy – a competition in which they shared the spoils last year.
The final matches, both pairs games, saw The Peak’s Brian Smith and Debbie McKenna, who was playing superbly in her first season, pitched against the experienced David Wightman and Paul Webster.
In an exciting game with the advantage swaying between the teams, The Peak pulled ahead by scoring a four at the fourth end, and stealing a single at the fifth end to take an 8–5 lead going into the last end.
Scottish Wheelchair Curling Association vice-chairman Rosemary Lenton said “Thanks to The Peak and their staff for providing excellent ice conditions for our competition. Also, without our on-ice helpers ,the competition wouldn’t have been the success it was”.
Active Stirling Ice Sports Development Officer, Logan Gray said, “For a club formed just a few years ago, to share the trophy last year and win it outright this year is a great achievement.”
