CLASSIFICATION REMINDER:

Dear all

The Paralympic Season is approaching very fast and we are sure you are already planning for the season ahead.

As you are probably aware, during the Paralympic Games, only athletes who are classified as Wheelchair Curling "Eligible" (WC-E) – Confirmed (C) can enter the competition.

There are no WCF Wheelchair Curling competitions scheduled before the Paralympic Games, and we are aware that there may be athletes who will require to be classified before heading to Sochi,
therefore the WCF has decided to officially sanction two Tournaments for Wheelchair Curling Classification.

The two tournaments selected are:

-          Kinross International, 15 – 17 October 2013, Kinross, Scotland

-          Cathy Kerr Memorial Bonspiel, provisional dates 28 November – 1 December 2013, Ottawa, Canada

Under the Classification Rules, any athlete who requires to be classified has to participate in the tournament / competition to allow observation by the classifiers. This means, if you require to have any athletes classified, you will have to enter the tournament for  that athlete to be observed.  We recommend that if you have athletes who require classification, that you please make sure you secure a place at the appropriate tournament as soon as the invitations are sent out.

The WCF has no other commitment at those tournaments than to offer classification. This means you will have to register for the appropriate tournament as normal with the Local Organising Committee. The only difference is, that at the same time you will have to send us the "Classification Request form" so that we can set up the classification schedule.

Please also note: The official deadline for the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee to receive the accreditation forms is 2 December 2013.

If you plan to have your athletes classified during the tournament in Ottawa, please make sure they bring all the necessary documents with them, so that the classification can be completed, as the deadline is only a day after the finals of this competition.

If you have any question, please either contact the Head of Classification, Dr. Young-Hee Lee (lee02@yonsei.ac.kr) or myself.

The official WCF Master List was updated after the last World Wheelchair Curling Championship and you can find it on our website: http://www.worldcurling.org/wheelchair-athlete-resources

We would like to use this message to also pre-announce a Wheelchair Curling Classifiers course:

There is still  a need to have more international Wheelchair Curling Classifiers. The WCF will therefore offer once again a Wheelchair

Classifier Workshop in connection with the competition in Kinross, Scotland. The course consists of a 1 day course on 14 October and

a practical hands-on training on 15 October. This course will be published in July on the WCF Camps and Courses Website

If you have any questions on any of the above, please send us an e-mail.

Kind regards

Eeva Röthlisberger

Coquitlam Curling Centre has been named as the host site for the 2014 BC Wheelchair Curling Championship.

July 17, 2013 (ISN) - Coquitlam Curling Centre has been named as the host site for the 2014 BC Wheelchair Curling Championship. The event will take place from January 24-26, 2014 and will feature BC's best wheelchair curlers.

The centre is housed in Coquitlam's state-of-the-art Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex, which was completed in 2010.

The winner of the 2014 BC Wheelchair Curling Championship will travel to Montreal, Quebec, in April 2014 for the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship.

Last year's BC champions, Team Cormack, skipped by Richmond curler Gary Cormack, were silver medalists at the national level.

BC has had a strong presence on the international wheelchair curling stage for a number of years. Most recently, BC curlers Sonja Gaudet and Ina Forrest formed part of Team Canada's curling team that took gold at the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship in Sochi, Russia.
Coquitlam Curling Centre is hosting the wheelchair event after successfully hosting the 2013 Tim Hortons BC Junior Curling Championships.

Barry Ayers, Coquitlam Curling Association Vice President, said: "The event is a good fit for us and our facility because we want to keep hosting events and our facility is brand-spanking new.
"We're looking forward to it. After we finished hosting the Juniors, we said 'what's next? Let's do another event!'"
