8th Annual Pat "o" Reid Memorial Bonspiel - THIS WEEKEND

The 8th Annual Pat "o" Reid Memorial Bonspiel is set for this weekend.

For those of you who may not know who Pat Ried is all I can say is your have missed out on one of the greatest people I ever had the honour to know. Pat O Reid was the front person for wheelchair curling when it first came to Canada. She is and was the primary reason in this country (Canada) that wheelchair curling exists.

I had the honour to know Pat Ried, although even for a short time. Her impact on the sport in this country for both wheelchair and able-bodied is ever lasting. She is missed dearly.

The bonspiel is open to both abled-bodied and wheelchair users in an inclusive format. The hope is to have 5 competitive wheelchair teams at the event. Teams from Toronto (Rees), Bradford (Gregory), Ottawa (Cameron) and 2 Teams from Ilderton (Bell, Iderson) will be making the track to play. These games could be seen as the forefront to Provincials play downs schedule at the end of the month in Kemptville at the North Grenville Curling Club from Jan. 31 until Feb.4. The provincial play downs will have 1 additional team from the Ottawa area (Fraser). OCA is the sanctioning body.

Games this weekend will be at 10:30am and 2:30pm, on a points based win system.

O.C.C. Team Ranking System points will be gained by competitive wheelchair teams.
