Tie breakers are set - It's Northern Ontario and Ontario all over again

When we started the week one of the questions we had was whether Manitoba would be able to repeat their exploits of last year. Well, the round robin is finished and there will not be a repeat champion. Manitoba, after opening strongly, finished weakly by losing 5 in a row which dropped them out of contention to 6th place. In fact, in their final game they were playing a young Quebec team that improved their play as the week progressed. Manitoba was in that game at the break ahead 2-1 but two triples and a deuce blew what had been a close game wide open.

One more game is needed before we move into the playoffs.  Ontario, by losing to Northern Ontario this morning, is forced to play a tie breaker. The ironic thing is they will be playing against the team that defeated them in Draw 9 - and on the same ice. Both teams should know the ice and the rocks. To emphasize this fact, Northern Ontario won the draw to the button for the chance to choose either hammer or colour. Instead of doing the usual thing and selecting the hammer, they selected colour.

End Notes:

End 1 - Facing 3 counters, Levesque drew down on second shot and tight to Ontario's shot rock. Ideson then removed the NO rock and, with the hammer, took 4
End 2 - Levesque drew in to the 4 foot to take one
End 3 - After calling a time out, Levesque decided to drop a guard. With no shot available to him, Ideson threw his rock away and conceded a single
End 4 - Wilcox threw up a mid-distance guard and then came around it into the house. Reynen drifted his attempted draw through. Prairie peeled his guard. Reynen came in top 12 covering the ON rock in the 8 foot. Bell threw too much weight and flashed his attempted take out. Paialunga put up a guard. Bell flashed a second attempt at a take out. Paialunga drew into the 8 foot on the other side of the house to lie 3 all covered. Levesque called his second and last time out and then drew to the 4 foot. Ideson then flashed his take out. Levesque dropped his last rock at the top of 12. With the final rock before the break, Ideson tried an inside out attack of the shot rock but it crashed on the blue rock top 12 which spilled into the 4 foot to give Northern Ontario a steal of 2 and a tie.
End 5 - LaFroye put her two rocks in the house on the centre line and Wilcox dropped hers to the side of the house above the T-line. Prairie capped one of Wilcox's rocks. Reynen spilled the NO rocks to the back of the house. Prairie removed the Reynen rock and rolled behind cover. Reynen was short on a draw. Bell drew to the back 8 covered. Paialunga drew to the button behind cover. Bell tried a tap back on the rock just thrown but was light. Paialunga put up a high guard. Levesque curled in and overlapped his own guard top 8. Ideson tried an angle in off a NO rock but flashed. Levesque guarded his overlapped rocks. Ideson drew to the 4 foot.
End 6 - Wilcox put down a high guard. LaFroye drew in behind to the button. Wilcox froze to the rock on the button. LaFroye bumped the Wilcox stone and rolled away but NO still had the button. Reynen hit the ON rock which bumped the button rock to back 8. Prairie hit the ON button rock and spilled out. Reynen nicked on the ON guard and opened a path. Prairie peeled the guard. Paialunga flashed an attempted take out. Bell took out the ON rock on the 4 foot to lie 2 but open. Paialunga flashed a take out between both NO rocks. Bell put up a tight guard. Ideson nicked the NO guard but rolled into top 12 open. Levesque drew in to bite the button. Ideson moved the NO rock to the back 12 and stayed to be third. Levesque bumped the ON rock back but not enough to take 3.
End 7 - LaFroye put up a centre line guard, Wilcox went in to the 8 foot at the side. LaFroye put one top 12. Wilcox drew onto the second NO rock. Prairie bumped the ON rock back to the 12 foot. Reynen bumped the NO rock out and stuck. Prairie bumped the ON rock out and stuck but more in the open. Reynen bumped the NO rock out and rolled onto the 4 foot behind the NO guard. Bell peeled the guard. Paialunga drew to top 12 on the centre line. Bell chipped out the ON rock on the 4 foot. Paialunga drew to bite top 12. Levesque drew deep to back 12. Ideson tried to draw but wicked off his rock top 12. Levesque's attempted draw came short. Ideson called his second and last time out and then tried to draw but came short.
End 8 -  Wilcox threw to top 4. LaFroye put up a guard which covered the Wilcox rock. Wilcox threw through. LaFroye moved the Wilcox rock to the 8 foot at the side and rolled back 12. Reynen drew back 4 covered by the NO guard. Prairie flashed a take out. Reynen drew to the button but open. Prairie removed the guard. Paialunga drew to back 8. Bell spilled one ON rock to lay open on the 4 foot. Paialunga flashed a take out. Bell took out the ON rock at the side of the 8 foot and rolled to be third. Ideson drew in and took out an ON rock back 12 to leave NO sitting first and second. Levesque froze to his rock in the 4 foot. Ideson drew to the wall at the back of the house. Levesque drew to the wall and stayed for the third point.
End 9 - LaFroye drew in to top 8 on the centre line. Wilcox drew to bite back 12. LaFroye drew to top 8 beside her first rock. Wilcox drew to bite the button behind the NO rock. Prairie replaced one of the NO rocks top 8. Reynen put a guard between the two NO rocks. Prairie pushed his take out very wide without a handle and flashed. Reynen put up another guard on the centre line but higher. Bell peeled the high ON guard. Paialunga drew in to the top of 4 on top of the ON rock. Bell peeled the close ON guard. Paialunga put up a close guard. Levesque called his only time out in the extra end and then tried an angle raise which was a bit wide. Ideson put a guard on the centre line to prevent the raise. Levesque ran his rock onto an ON guard which raised the NO rock onto the ON rock on the button. Ideson threw his last rock away to put his faith in a measure and the win. The measure proved "It pays to have faith".
