Jim's double delight

JIM Gault had plenty of inside knowledge of his opponents as he skipped his trio to victory in the Highland Triples at Inverness.

Jim (pictured), from Lossiemouth, secured his second consecutive victory in the Highland Wheelchair Curling Club event with team-mates Mo Simpson (Inverness) and Ian Donaldson (Dumfries).

The Moray Wheelchair Curling Club member dumped the Moray trio of Mike McKenzie, Jackie Caton and Craig Taylor in the final.

Jim won the inaugural event last year with Moray team-mates Gregor Ewan and Tom Killin, but didn’t expect to be able to defend the trophy.
“Originally I thought I would be going to Denmark with the Scotland squad, but only heard five days before the event that I wasn’t going,” he said.

That saw event organiser Mo Simpson pull together a scratch threesome with Jim and Ian at the last minute.

Team Simpson won six games on their way to the final before beating the Moray trio 9-5 to lift the trophy in the Tesco-sponsored event.

There was plenty of banter in the build-up to the final, especially as Mike was giving Jim a lift through to Inverness both days of the competition.

“There was a wee bit of niggle,” joked Jim. “Everybody wants to win and there was a good rivalry.”
