Wheelchair Curling Success
Disability Sport Fife performance athletes Graham McIntyre (Leven) and Brad Stewart (Ladybank) excel in the sports of rowing and archery. Each athlete however expressed an interest in trying wheelchair curling and DSF President Richard Brickley arranged with his friend of many years, Michael McCreadie, for coaching sessions in Stirling and Kinross. Former GB skip and multi medallist McCreadie not only arranged for coaching but involvement in the 2015 Scottish Wheelchair Championships at the Peak in Stirling. Coaching sessions also involved input from current GB and Scotland skip, Aileen Neilson.
Graham and Brad thoroughly enjoyed teaming up with Michael, Aileen and Alison Hopkins for the three day national championships. Not only did the Fife players enjoy the experience immensely but they finished second in their qualifying pool and secured a place in the semi finals. They lost the tie for a place in the final but won the bronze medal play off match in their first ever competitive curling competition. Their success was due to the quality of coaching they received from Michael and Aileen in the run up to the championships and the support they received throughout the tournament. Undoubtedly they will be back for more of the same.
