Wheelchair curling starts in Greenock

Waterfront Leisure Complex was the venue on Sunday for the Royal Club’s ‘Introduction to Wheelchair Curling Module’. Sheila Swan gave participants an insight to wheelchair curling and covered the various wheelchair curling delivery techniques that are used.

After the theoretical element, the 8 attendees had the opportunity to try the techniques from a chair themselves. It is intended to now build links with Disability Groups in Inverclyde in order to establish wheelchair curling as a regular programme.

Try Curling events were also held over the weekend at Kinross and Waterfront rinks. Kinross had a phenomenal response with 69 new curlers taking to the ice for the first time, led by an enthusiastic group of coaches. Waterfront’s session was less successful in terms of participant numbers with 8 attending however each and every one enjoyed their session and are hoping to get back on the ice soon.
