Summary of Draw 7 - Alberta tops the field

In a morning of surprises we saw last year's champion Manitoba upset by Nova Scotia in a game which seemed to be in hand until the final end. Manitoba drew in to lie second shot but Nova Scotia with it's last rock took out the Manitoba stone to score 3.

In the final end on sheet B, Quebec's skip Lessard, with hammer, made a great shot to take 4 and come back from 2 down.  In doing so they turned what was sure to be a loss into an Ontario defeat.

Over on C, we saw Newfoundland & Labrador play up to an expected level and capture its first win of the tournament. In the 6th, Host was facing 4 but Rick Prud'homme could only remove one. Great play by Officer of Canada recipient and Newfoundland Skip Joanne MacDonald lead her team to this much needed victory.

On Sheet D, great play by BC skip, Gerry Austgarden was not enough to slow down the Squash steam engine which Darwin Bender had rolling. The turning point came the 4th end with Darwin taking 3. After that BC, although playing well, was unable to crack the scoreboard again.

And finally on E, Northern Ontario got out to a lead over top dog Alberta; however, a few misses saw Alberta skip, Bruno Yizek, capitalize and lead his team toward the podium.

Draw 8 starts at 3pm this afternoon.
