A wheelchair curling team in St. John's received a significant sponsorship at the ReMax Centre - St. John's Curling Club last night. VOCM's Zaren Healey White reports.

Team MacDonald, a wheelchair curling team based in St. John's, has received 5-thousand dollars from the Canadian Paraplegic Association. The team's skip, Joanne MacDonald, says the association has been very supportive of them over the last five years. She says the money is a tremendous help for their team as they prepare to compete in the national competition in March. The money will enable the team to pay memberships, buy equipment, and offset travel costs. Team MacDonald also wants to encourage participation in wheelchair curling and to develop the sport in the province.

One of the things they've been trying to do is develop the sport of wheelchair curling. She says they hold open houses to have people come in and try the sport, and recently they recruited two new people.

MacDonald says anyone interested in finding out more about the sport of wheelchair curling can contact her through the St. John's Curling Club or on Facebook.
