Wheelchair curling tournaments have been staged at the Paralympics since the Winter Paralympic Games in 2006 in Turin. The 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia will be held from March 7 to 16, 2014. So far, Canada has been the most successful team in the Paralympics, winning twice of the gold medals. In fact, Canada won its third World Wheelchair Curling Championship title in February 2013 at the Ice Cube Curling Center, venue for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi.
As Sochi Paralympics are just round the corner, 2013 Canada Open sees the participation of 7 teams full of world class caliber athletes. They are Alberta, BC, BOSQ, Canada, Edmonton Rocks, RCD and Scotland.
It is free admission for all to attend and witness the keen competition and incredible curling skills. Opening Ceremony will be held on October 23, 2013 at 9 a.m. at the Richmond Curling Club. First Draw will start immediately after the Opening Ceremony. His Worship Malcolm Brodie, Mayor of City of Richmond, will be our guest of honour to officiate the Bonspiel.
