Ken Gregory and Team Bradford win OCA Playdowns

Today's final is between two teams who know each other quite well and who have been here before. Chris Rees had a three-peat in 2006, 2007 and 2008 sandwiched between wins by Ken Gregory in 2005 and 2009. Rees changed his lead and second in 2011 and they came away as champions so he's hoping the same line-up will be successful again.

Gregory, with the hammer, opened with a deuce, then stole a single and followed that with another steal of a trey to jump ahead 6-0. Rees took a single to enter the break down by 5. Determined to get back into the game, Rees came out of the break with a single steal and looked to put pressure on Gregory. With at least three ends left anything can happen.

In the 6th end Gregory took back the single Rees had stolen in the 5th and the struggle intensified

This battle did not include Jim Armstrong, skip of the national team; Armstrong for the second time since playing in a provinical playdowns failed to make the finals when he came short with hammer on 2 opportunies to close the door on Gregory in the semi-finals giving Gregory the 8-7.

The Rees team has never not been in an Ontario final since playdowns started say them once again a favourite after beating the heavy favourite of the whole tournament Jim Armstrong and his rink out of the Galt Curling club.

A few key shots being missed were the difference in the game seeing Ken Gregory and his team return to the Nationals for 3 times since appearances in 2005 and 2009.
